'RETURN TO BASE'

I have organised an official visit to Akrotiri Base provisionally for Friday 3rd September 2021, the day before our big reunion bash!

Buttons Bay, Sailing Club, Sub-Aqua club, Kart Club, Saddle Club, a leisurely half in the sunshine outside the Pen Club - you name it our hosts will do their best to take you down your own personal stretch of memory lane.

As long as our coach can physically access the location and there are no security issues that prevent it, they will endeavour to honour your requests and even stop if possible for photos and to soak-up the atmosphere at the locations that you have asked for.

It is important to remember that this is an operational base and the personnel & their families who live & work in this camp  are giving us leave to enter their community, so please be mindful of this at all times, respect the privacy of the families and personnel that we may encounter & remember that they are welcoming us into their home, so we should be mindful that this is a privilege.

It is equally crucial to be aware of the security requirements on an operational military base and that there are certain places & subjects that we cannot request access to or expect to visit. This includes the fact that we should be careful that photographs should not be taken of any potentially sensitive installation or area - as we are all former military personnel or Scale-E brats, we should be well aware of this and take care not to place our hosts in an uncomfortable position through actions we know might compromise base policy.
I have arranged for a coach to take us on camp, with costs dependent on confirmed numbers who register for the tour by the end of June cut-off.

Cost of the transport will be shared between all attendees, so should be very reasonable there is a part of the registration form where you can make requests to visit specific places that may hold special memories for you.

We will go from Akrotiri up to the stunning 'Artist's Village' of Lania for a Meze (or otherwise) at the renowned Lania Taverna, after which we will move on to visit Demos Aristidou at his nearby family-run Filfar Distillery.
