These days it is relatively easy to visit the North of the Island.

Most hire car companies allow this although their insurance will not cover you whilst  you are there. At the border, there is

a kiosk that will sell you a cheap day's insurance - €20 appx.

The North is still very much as it was 30 years ago & with many great places to visit, such as Kantara Castle, Salamis Ruins, the Castle at Kyrenia Harbour, the Panhandle, St Hilarion, Famagusta's amazing fortress-walled Harbour & many other unspoilt locations, it's well worth the effort!
